Boylston and Hammond

This image shows Hammond Street (from the top to the bottom) and Boylston Street (from right to left) as they exist at present. Hammond Street south of Boylston Street is unpleasant for bicycling, with four narrow lanes. Boylston Street is a heavily-used arterial, though over most of its length, it has wide shoulders.

Heath Street, the first street south of Boylston Street, is a very useful alternate east-west route and a promising low-traffic designated bicycle route. It is presently one-way westbound west of Boylston Street; Woodland Road, south of Heath Street, offers an eastbound alternate, but has no traffic light at heavily-traveled Hammond Street. Contraflow bicycle traffic on Heath street, or a traffic signal on Woodland Road, would alleviate these problems.
